‘No new movement’ on Volcano Island project

Group still trying to find financing

FAIRMONT — There has been “no new movement” on Fairmont’s proposed Volcano Island Indoor Waterpark Resort from the developer’s side, City Planner Kathy Wyrosdick said.

The economic downturn and tightening of credit lines has hurt commercial development across the country, and that lack of available funding was certainly a blow to the Volcano Island project, Wyrosdick said.

“These are challenging projects ... to find solid financing for to begin with,” she said.

“I think there are some things that have probably happened that were obviously .... outside of their control with the economy and the way the economy went,” City Manager Jay Rogers said of The Water Works.
