‘Light Up A Life’ fundraiser under way

Hospice gets help providing care; loved ones memorialized

FAIRMONT — More than perhaps any other holiday, Christmas is a time to spend with family.

And every year, the Hospice Care Corp. helps people remember and celebrate the family who have passed on.

Friday, people gathered at Fairmont General Hospital for the annual “Light Up A Life” fundraiser, helping Hospice provide care for patients in need and memorialize deceased loved ones.

“Life is for living,” said volunteer coordinator Janie Johnston, “and at the holidays, an important part of living is remembering the people who have gone on before that we’ve learned from, that we’ve loved, and this is a chance to celebrate them.”

Hospice works in FGH and throughout the state providing end-of-life and palliative (focused on relieving pain) care. The not-for-profit organization operates in 12 counties, according to Cynthia Woodyard, vice president of public affairs and access.
