Construction slated to begin on ATC

Pierpont BOG approves additional $2.5 million in funding for project

FAIRMONT — Construction will soon begin on the North Central Advanced Technology Center at the I-79 High Tech Park.

On Tuesday, Pierpont Community & Technical College officials said the construction bid had been awarded to Nello Construction of Canonsburg, Pa.

“Today we had fantastic news for Pierpont Community & Technical College and the region,” President Dr. Doreen Larson said at the Board of Governors meeting. “The bids for the Advanced Technology Center construction have been awarded and the project is on budget.”

The facility will house programs in mechatronics, power plant technology, power systems institute, petroleum technology, information systems, advanced welding, workforce training and certifications, continuing education, emerging technologies and flexible training/demonstration space.

In addition, Larson said four additional classrooms and space for the medical lab technology program were able to be funded on budget. The facility’s student services center as well as administrative and student government spaces will be finished at a later date.
