FAIRMONT — A Pennsylvania man was arrested Tuesday by West Virginia State Police in Marion County on drug charges.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court, George William Semko, 63, of McDonald, Pa., was involved in a single-car crash Monday near the 142-mile marker on Interstate 79.

EMS crews detected a strong odor of alcohol on Semko. He admitted to having consumed three alcoholic beverages while driving from Daytona, Fla. Police found more than $1,000 in cash and 16.6 hydrocarbon pills.

He told police he got them from a friend for his pre-existing back problems so he didn’t have a prescription.

Police also found a can containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. Semko admitted that he had snorted some of the cocaine, along with half of a hydrocarbon pill, said the criminal complaint.

Semko is charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver and is being held in North Central Regional Jail with bail set at $5,000.

A Fairmont man was one of several who pleaded guilty or were sentenced in U.S. Federal Court in Clarksburg, according to the office of the office of the U.S. Attorney Northern District of West Virginia.

Eric Smith, 30, was sentenced to three years probation, with the first six months to be served under home detention, for the distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a protected location. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Fairmont Police Department.
