A Fairmont man is in the North Central Regional Jail following arrest by West Virginia State Police.
According to the criminal complaint filed at Marion County Magistrate Court, Ronald Stephen Kovach II, of Fairmont, is charged with felony unlawful wounding following an altercation March 14 outside his home.
The 42-year-old Kovach allegedly struck another man with his fist in the face and cut his right ear with a knife. The second man received medical treatment at Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he received up to 10 stitches and spent the night for possible surgery.
Kovach said the second man was choking him and came at him with a stick, although he was not hurt.
Kovach admitted he hit the second man in the head with a knife. His son witnessed the altercation and said Kovach “punched” the second man. But he did not see a knife because he went inside the house before the end of the fight.
The fight was also witnessed by the second man’s girlfriend, who said Kovach punched and stabbed him.
He is being held at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County on $20,000 bond.
If convicted, he faces, at the court’s discretion, one to five years in the state penitentiary, up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $500.
Another Marion County man is held in the regional jail on felony possession of and intent to deliver marijuana, a Schedule I controlled substance.
