A Marion County man arrested on manufacturing a Schedule I drug tried to escape from the Inmate Transport Van from Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies early Wednesday morning.
He didn’t get far. In fact, he didn’t even make it out of the van.
Paul James Delaet, 20, of 1605 1/2 Pleasant Valley Road, had been arrested by Deputy W. Wheeler of the Marion County Sheriffs Department April 15 for manufacture of marijuana, a Schedule I drug.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court, Wheeler responded to a complaint of arson in progress at the above address. When he arrived, he detected “a strong odor of gasoline” coming from Delaet’s clothing. Delaet allegedly told Wheeler he was “just pouring the gasoline on the ground to get his dad’s attention.”
