Furgason named new principal of FSHS

After serving as assistant principal at school last year, Furgason says move is a ‘golden opportunity’

FAIRMONT — Tyson Furgason looks forward to working with the great staff and students at Fairmont Senior High School as the new principal.

Superintendent of Schools Gary Price recommended Furgason, who served as assistant principal at Fairmont Senior last year, for the position after six eligible applicants were interviewed. Four of the applicants came from within the Marion County school system and two previously worked out of state.

The members of the Marion County Board of Education approved Price’s recommendation by a 5-0 vote during Monday night’s meeting. The move became effective immediately.

Furgason fills the position that became open after Chad Norman, principal of Fairmont Senior for the past nine years, took on the role of administrative assistant of technology for the Central Office earlier this month.

The assistant principal job at Fairmont Senior will be posted today. Price expects to have a replacement in time for the Aug. 5 board meeting, which will be held at the Marion County Public Library in downtown Fairmont.

Prior to becoming Fairmont Senior’s assistant principal, Furgason was assistant principal at Mannington Middle School for a year. He spent a couple years at West Fairmont Middle School teaching social studies classes like West Virginia studies and geography.
