Impact inspections designed to improve compliance

FAIRMONT — Consol Energy’s Robinson Run No. 95 mine in Marion County was recently issued 12 citations during an impact inspection by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety & Health Administration.

In the month of November, MSHA conducted impact inspections at nine coal mines and seven metal/nonmetal mines, and issued 285 citations, 11 orders and two safeguards as a result.

In MSHA’s District 3, which includes Northern West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio, the Robinson Run mine was selected for an inspection.

The impact inspection was unrelated to the fatality at the coal slurry pond at Robinson Run on Nov. 30. The inspection occurred earlier in the month, on Nov. 7, said Amy Louviere, public affairs director for MSHA.
