According to the United States Department of Health and Human Resources, almost 50 million people in the U.S. live without any health insurance. Millions more are under-insured.
Marion County has its fair share of uninsured and under-insured people as well, and the Milan Puskar Health Right, a United Way of Marion County member agency which provides free health care for people in Marion, Monongalia, Taylor and Preston counties, is working to make a dent in one of the region’s largest needs.
“We serve a little more than 300 or 400 Marion County clients,” said executive director Laura Jones, both at the primary location in Morgantown and a satellite office located at the Soup Opera in Fairmont.
Primarily the Health Right serves people who can’t afford health insurance, Jones said. Many of these people work, but their jobs don’t offer an insurance package.
