A group of students from the Mushin Do dojo in Bellview have qualified to compete on the national stage.
According to Sensei Pat Wilson, who, along with Sensei Garry Freeman, own the dojo, 14 students, ranging in age from 6 to 38, qualified to move on to the national tournament by virtue of their performances at a national qualifier tournament held on Feb. 9 in St. Albans.
Wilson said that the qualifier tournament included competitors from Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and other parts of the country.
Wilson said that they also enlisted the help of Sensei Larry Rogers to prepare the students for competition.
“He’s very familiar with the national tournament,” Wilson said of Rogers.
