A girl from Metz believed to have jumped into State Road Fork late Thursday evening was found alive and well.
The incident was reported around 9:40 p.m. as a water rescue on 911 dispatch logs. According to dispatchers from Marion County Central Communications, the creek level was elevated from recent rains.
Mark Niggemyer, assistant chief of the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, said Winfield is the only company in the county certified for diving and water-rescue missions. Valley Volunteer Fire Department has a single diver who is sometimes called to assist.
