Earlier this week, Lloyd White was recognized by Fairmont City Council and the Marion County Commission for the service and guidance he provided during his time with the Marion County Rescue Squad.
White first became involved with the rescue squad as a volunteer in 1984 and officially retired as the agency’s chief financial officer on July 1.
According to White, his decision to volunteer for the squad stemmed from a desire to help others. At the time, White was also a fireman, but he wanted to extend his assistance even further.
“Back when I started volunteering, the squad was 100 percent volunteers,” White said. “I saw the need there to become an EMT, and becoming one really gives you an opportunity to serve the public.”
