County funds war memorial, community projects

FAIRMONT — The Korean Conflict has been called “the forgotten war.”

A local group dedicated to remembering those fallen heroes needs some financial help in completing a memorial in their honor.

Loren Jackson, Korean War veteran and representative of Chapter 163 of the Korean War Veterans Association, appeared before the Marion County Commission Wednesday, asking for some donations to help with the memorial it’s building for those veterans.

Veterans have spent the past four years building a memorial to honor those Marion County men and women who served in the Korean War.

    Fairmont officials want to remind residents to not attempt to turn onto Fourth Street to use the Fourth Street Bridge.
    The bridge has been closed since Monday when a West Virginia Department of Transportations (WV DOT) report sent to the city changed the bridge’s rating from poor condition to critical condition and recommended its closure.

  • Fairmont Police Department has two openings

    The Fairmont Police Department is looking for new officers.
    Chief Kelley Moran said the department has two openings for new police officers. He said the positions are for young men and women who are interested in a career in law enforcement.

  • Fairmont seeking applicants for vacancy

    Fairmont is still seeking applicants for the 7th District seat vacancy on Fairmont City Council. So far, two applicants have submitted their materials for review.
    Robert Garcia submitted his letter of resignation from the 7th District seat Monday June 30, citing “circumstances beyond his control.”

    Bridges will be dedicated this weekend to two individuals who gave their lives while serving the public.
    Former Rivesville police chief Denzil O. Lockard and Rivesville firefighter Alex Angelino will have memorial bridges named after them. The ceremony for the bridges will begin at 11 a.m. today at the Rivesville Community Building.
