Fairview water line extension project nears completion

FAIRMONT — According to officials, Fairview’s water line extension project should be completed in the next few weeks.

Fairview Mayor Arley Simmons, Fairview water plant lead operator Chris Scritchfield, and Craig Cobb, supervising district engineer for the Philippi District Office of the West Virginia Bureau of Public Health, all reported that new customers were being put online this week and will continue to be added in stages and as test results come back.

The hope is to have all the new customers who want service online by the end of July at the latest.

This $4.6 million effort has been in the works for several years and has gone through many changes and complications during that time. In the end, water will be supplied to around 120 customers on the outskirts of town who have had well water that is contaminated.

Community members have commented that they are in desperate need of water and have expressed frustrations at the length of time this project has taken.
