FAIRMONT — With two years left of his second term on Fairmont City Council, 7th district represetative Rob Garcia has resigned Monday.
The following is the full text of the press release distributed to media by City Clerk Janet Keller.
"Citing circumstances beyond his control, 7th District Councilmember Rob Garcia today submitted a letter of resignation effective immediately to Mayor Ron Straight, Fairmont City Council and City Manager Jay Rogers.
Garcia was first elected to City Council in 2008 and served as Deputy Mayor from January 11, 2011, to January 8, 2013 was re-elected to Council in 2012.
'Councilmember Garcia served the citizens of Fairmont well over the last six years. We wish him well and thank him for his service, he will be missed,' said Mayor Ron Straight.
In accordance with the provisions of the City Charter, Council will have thirty (30) days to appoint a qualified candidate to fill the seat until the canvass is completed related to the 2014 Council Election. The remainder of the unexpired term for the 7th District seat will placed on the ballot along with the other open seats."
