Filing periods for town elections vary

FAIRMONT — Municipal election filings in Barrackville have closed.

The town will be holding elections for mayor, recorder and five council seats Tuesday, June 3. The positions are for two-year terms.

The filing period closed Feb. 15.

Incumbent mayor Roy Meeks III is running for re-election, with current councilman Douglas Ice also running for the seat.

Incumbent council members running for re-election are Robert Hollandsworth, David Tonkin, Jeffrey Mullenax and Charles Moore. Also running for council seats are Randy “Dewey” Ice, Michelle Clyde, Bill Greathouse and Michael Jordan III. Steven Richard Hall is running for town recorder. The current recorder is Donna Hall.

Grant Town’s filing period will close Saturday. The town hall will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday for anyone who wants to file to run. Five council seats, the mayor and the recorder are all up for election. Each position serves a two-year term. The filing fee is $15 for mayor, $10 for council seats and $15 for the town recorder.

As of Tuesday, three people had filed. Charles Ross has filed to run for a council seat, and incumbent council members Charlie Rosic and Michael Jordan have also filed to run.

The election will be held June 3.

The current Grant Town mayor is Melanie Thompson. Council members are Charlie Rosic, Melissa Rosic, Michael Jordan, Doug Gower and Brad Shahan. Kristin Craig is the recorder.

Pleasant Valley is holding its municipal election June 10. Its filing period will be held from March 3-14. Anyone interested in filing should come to the municipal building between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and pay the $5 filing fee.
