This fall, Pierpont Community & Technical College will once again be offering an Aircraft Structures Training Program.
Ron Weist, director of marketing for Continuing Education & Workforce Development, said the program equips interested individuals with the training necessary to succeed in the aerospace industry and encouraged those with some experience to apply.
“We’re specifically looking for anyone that has a mechanical background,” Weist said. “Then we can teach you what you need to know to do this particular job.”
Weist said that West Virginia residents accepted into the program will receive free tuition, made possible by a West Virginia Advance Grant. Non-residents may also apply, but must pay a $4,500 tuition fee.
The eight week program begins Sept. 9 and continues through Nov. 1. Classes are held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center in Bridgeport.
Thomas Stagner, a former student who completed the previous round of the program, said he learned important skills such as reading blue prints, rivet installation and more, and that those skills opened up new doors for him.
