Brighton Kunce- In his own words

FAIRMONT — Brighton Kunce is an 18-year-old senior at East Fairmont High School. He lives in Fairmont and is a member of the EFHS varsity soccer and tennis teams. He is the son of Mark and Adrienne Kunce of Fairmont.

1. What creeps you out the most?

Nothing.

2. Who are your favorite personalities to "follow" on Twitter?

I don’t follow any celebrities.

3. What is your proudest achievement?

Winning the Big 10 Conference in soccer last fall.

4. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?

Chocolate.

5. What are the most frequently played songs on your iPod?

Anything rock — “Comatose,” “Breaking Inside.”

6. Which subject do you prefer in school?

Math.

7. Who do you look up to?

My parents.

8. What's your dream job?

Being a professional athlete.

9. What's the biggest issue teens deal with today?

Stress management.

10. What's the best school lunch?

Pepperoni rolls.

11. Where's your favorite place to vacation?

The beach — Kill Devil Hills, Outer Banks, North Carolina.

12. What are your plans after graduation?

College at Fairmont State University.

13. What was the last movie you watched?

“Pitch Perfect.”

14. What was the last book you read?

“The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”

15. What's important to you?

The people I care about — friends, family, etc.

16. What's your favorite holiday?

Christmas.

17. What's your favorite color?

Green.

18. Who has been the most influential person in your life?

My dad.

19. What's the best thing about your school?

Lunch.

20. What's your least favorite chore?

Cleaning my room.

    Children have been learning at Watson Elementary School, even though it’s summer break.
    Thirty-four students in grades one to six started the Energy Express program June 13 and will participate until Aug. 2. It is run by West Virginia University’s Extension Services and AmeriCorps.

    Participants in the Marion and Monongalia County Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) will soon have another way to get access to fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs.
    Through the West Virginia Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, WIC program participants will be able to receive vouchers for use at their local farmers’ market.

    Four new candidates have filed to run for Fairmont City Council this week: Rob Linger in the 3rd District, Richard “Rick” McElroy and Fran Warner in the 5th District, and Jeremiah Rivera in the 7th District.
    The election will be held in conjunction with the Nov. 4 general election.

    A Farmington couple was charged with child neglect after the wife allegedly sold drugs out of their home with children present.
    Johnnie Brint Thorne, 32, of Farmington, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with conspiracy and child neglect creating risk of injury.

    Children from Sunbeam Early Learning Center visited West Virginia University’s Children’s Hospital Wednesday to make a special delivery.
    Two students, Niasia Payne, 10, and Desiree Balch, 11, held a bake sale at Sunbeam July 9 and 10 to raise money for the hospital and set a goal for $50.

  • Fairmont seeks to rebrand itself

    The city of Fairmont is starting to try to reach out to residents in new ways.
    The city created a new position, Fairmont program manager of marketing and communications, to help facilitate the effort.
    Hanna Weaver said she started the job around four weeks ago. She is originally from the Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands region, and her previous job was working as executive director of the Grant County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
