The Marion County Commission has approved the merger of Precinct 67 into Precinct 68.
The decision was made at the request of County Clerk Janice Cosco.
“The reason we’re doing this is we had fewer than 300 voters registered in Precinct 67 and more than 300 in Precinct 68,” Cosco said after the meeting.
“We felt the need to have one precinct made out of the two because the numbers were so small. This gives us about 600-plus registered voters in Precinct 68.
“West Virginia code tells us a rural area should not have fewer than 200 registered voters nor more than 700. An urban area should not have fewer than 300 nor more than 1,500.
