Arrest made in Fairmont burglaries

Police say more are pending

FAIRMONT — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a man in connection with recent burglaries in Fairmont.

Chief Deputy Ralph Wright said the sheriff’s department received a call around 11 p.m. Sunday about a possible breaking-and-entering in the city’s Bellview area.

Wright declined to name the suspect or the business that was allegedly burglarized.

He said a couple of guys fled the scene on foot, and deputies pursued them.

“A vehicle was left on scene, and through vehicle registration it was traced back to Bonview Avenue,” Wright said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and served it around 11 a.m. Monday.

Monday’s arrest was related to the string of burglaries that had been happening in the Fairmont area beginning late last summer, Wright said, when numerous houses on the city’s West Side were broken into during the afternoon hours.

The rash of break-ins left many in the neighborhoods on high alert because the individuals breaking into the homes were taking small, high-value items that could be easily carried from the scene.

“Evidence found in the house appeared to be from at least three other breaking-and-enterings in the area,” Wright added.

He said one person has been detained, and deputies are in the process of arresting two others. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is working in collaboration with the Fairmont Police Department to locate the two remaining suspects.

He said deputies will release the name of the man once the search is complete at the Bonview Avenue house.
