The United Way of Marion County announced Tuesday morning they have reached and exceeded their goal for this campaign year.
Tiffany Samuels, director of the United Way, announced Wednesday morning that the organization has raised $458,000 — exceeding the set goal of $455,000 — during the South Fairmont Rotary Club meeting.
“I am absolutely speechless and can’t come up with the words to thank Marion County for helping those in need,” Samuels said.
Samuels said the campaign is closed but the number will continue to rise because churches are still calling the office with their pledges.
Dr. Doreen Larson, co-chair of this year’s campaign with her husband Len, said she was thankful for the way the community stepped up to help reach the goal.
“People (who) were really hurting, themselves, stepped up,” she said.
