The new White Hall Business Association is being created to promote the town and make sure it continues to succeed.
Jonathan Board is part of the collaborative effort between many businesses in White Hall to form the association. He is the chief operating officer of Photo Craft, which owns Your Bulletin Board, Freedom Design and Stonewall Investment Properties, all located in White Hall.
The individuals that are involved are going through the process to develop this 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation and putting together the bylaws. The group will vote on the bylaws and the articles of incorporation by next Friday, and then will register with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, Board said.
He explained that the idea for the business association came about when White Hall Council proposed an ordinance that would increase the municipal fees for commercial properties in order to fund fire, police and the construction of a public safety building.
“We realized as a community of business owners and employers and service providers for the area that we kind of needed a voice,” Board said. “We simply didn’t have a voice before.”
During council’s first reading of the ordinance, members of the business community came together to express their concerns about the rate increase, he said. Council decided to table the second reading of the ordinance.
The businesses showed their desire to get involved and create a unified front, Board said. The White Hall Business Association plans to work proactively with the town council and the community in matters that affect them and make sure all parties are represented fairly.
