McNeely: ‘Unique skill set’ for FSU position

University spokesperson: Elliott ‘has decided to pursue other opportunities’

FAIRMONT — After filling the role as Fairmont State University’s athletic director since 2007, Rusty Elliott will no longer serve in that capacity as of April 1.

Tim McNeely, former tournament director of the PGA’s Greenbrier Classic, has been hired to fill the position.

The announcement came from FSU officials Thursday evening, but there was no mention of Elliott or the factors behind the decision.

Ann Booth, director of university communications at FSU, commented on the personnel change on Friday.

“He has decided to pursue other opportunities,” Booth said of Elliott.
