How many more days until spring?
You probably weren’t the only person to ask that after getting up Monday morning.
Marion Countians awoke to a blanket of snow covering their yards, trees, driveways and roads.
The snow had started in earnest before midnight. While the storm didn’t bring the 3-8 inches forecast by one weather service, roads were covered enough by early morning to cause several accidents.
“Snow is not unusual for the Morgantown area in March,” said Mike Pigott, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather in State College, Pa.
People here really lucked out, with many locations receiveing only 2 or 3 inches, while parts of Monongalia County got up to 5, he said.
“Various weather forecasters use different computer models in assisting in forecasting, taking into account variables like temperature, wind speed and precipitation,” Pigott said. “Even though a storm may be a thousand miles away, this gives us an idea of its potential.”
Some people like the light powdery snow.
“This happens when the temps throughout the atmosphere are well below freezing. The colder it is, the more powdery the snow,” he said.
Others like those big, fluffy flakes.
