Mannington halfway to event goal

City’s annual Relay for Life slated next Friday at Hough Park

FAIRMONT — The Mannington Relay for Life will take place next week at Hough Park, with opening ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, May 17.

“It is going great,” Sandra Parenti, who is organizing the event, said of preparations. “It’s going to be very nice.”

Every year, the relay raises thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Last year, the Mannington relay raised $48,800 by the time the event was over.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than 300 volunteers had raised about $25,000, half the relay’s goal of $50,000.
