FAIRMONT — A Marion County man was arrested Friday by West Virginia State Police.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Marion County Magistrate Court, Robert Lee Drennon Jr., 25, of 1110 Alexander Place, Fairmont, was charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender.

Cpl. H.C. Myers, West Virginia State Police, had contacted Deputy Gearde of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department that he had received information that in January 2013 Drennon had moved to Fairmont from Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was on that city’s sex offender registry.

Myers had ascertained that Drennon had been working at a Fairmont fast food restaurant since March 7 and had not registered with the West Virginia State Police as a sex offender. This is in violation of West Virginia Code 15-12-8(c). First violation brings a potential sentence of one to five years in a state correctional facility. Subsequent convictions bring a sentence of 10-25 years.
