Community grants are awarded by MCPARC

Total of $46,000 to 24 different agencies

FAIRMONT — The Marion County Parks and Recreation Commission continues to make a positive impact on communities in the county through its grant program.

As part of its Community Grant Program, MCPARC recently awarded $46,000 worth of grants to 24 different agencies. The funding ranged from $500 to $5,000 per project, said Tony Michalski, director of MCPARC.

Since 1989, the organization has given around $650,000 back to the community through this annual program, he said.

MCPARC maintains 11 parks in the county, and these grants are an opportunity to help out the parks that it doesn’t own and operate.
