Local pastor expects ‘new, different viewpoint’

FAIRMONT — From his background to native country and to even his name, Pope Francis ... the former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina ... is a man of many firsts.

“From everything I’ve read, they’re expecting him to bring a new, different viewpoint,” said the Rev. Father Douglas Sutton, pastor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Farmington.

“The fact that he goes into the street to talk to people is very important.”

The fact that Pope Francis, a former Jesuit priest, chose this name is significant, Sutton added.
