Marion County political leaders largely support Jay’s decision

FAIRMONT — The news of Sen. Jay Rockefeller’s decision not to seek a sixth term came as a surprise to many, to say nothing of the upheaval it has created in the political arena.

Marion County political leaders were largely supportive of the senator’s decision to dedicate more time to his family and are optimistic about the upcoming election in 2014.

“We all knew this day was coming, but I didn’t want to see it coming so soon,” said Belinda Biafore, chair of the Marion County Democratic Committee. “Statesmen like him are hard to come by.”

Larry Puccio, chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party, said that he was pleased that Rockefeller would be able to spend more time with his family.
