Flu and influenza-like illness continues to increase in the region and around the state, and some area nursing homes also have temporarily changed visiting policies because some of their residents have come down with the virus.
“We do have several patients with the flu,” said Ruth Blair, administrator at The Arbors at Fairmont, on Thursday.
Patients started coming down with the flu late last Friday, Blair said, and the number of patients “varies from day to day as the symptoms go away. We do have several people. We’ve reported it to the health department, as is required, and we’re trying to limit visitors. We’re asking people not to visit.”
Signs have been posted alerting visitors to the situation and asking them not to come in, both for the protection of the residents as well as the people they may come in contact.
