Reading poetry can be challenging enough, but to be able to memorize contemporary poems, classic poems and pre-20th century poems takes some talent, as many students at Fairmont Senior High School recently learned.
On Jan. 10, several students recited three poems from each category in front of their teachers and a special judge. Poems were chosen through the Poetry Out Loud website. Poetry Out Loud is a nationwide contest that just made its way to FSHS for the first year.
Many students stumbled their way through the more difficult poems with the help of their teachers. Some appeared more confident in reciting their poems but may have missed a line or two.
