An unidentified man was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on Horner Run Road on Monday afternoon.
According to scanner traffic, the victim was found by a passer-by slumped over the steering wheel of a silver Ford pickup truck.
“We found one male dead upon our arrival of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” said Trooper First Class J.M. Bush of the Bridgeport Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
Police are not releasing the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
“It is still under investigation. We are trying to contact his next of kin. We think he has family here.”
The vehicle, with Texas plates, was parked in the weeds just outside a turn-around area, facing the narrow paved road, just before the I-79 overpass.
“We got the call through Marion and Harrison counties,” Bush said. “It was so close to the county line, but this is indeed Harrison County.”
Also responding were troopers from the Marion County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, Bridgeport EMS and White Hall City Police.
Bush said the victim was in his mid-40s.
