Mayors: Dilapidated buildings big concern

Many are dealing with shrinking budgets

FAIRMONT — The mayors of Marion County don’t often get together to sit down and discuss their issues with the people who understand them the best.

So Charlie Reese, director of the Marion County Development Office, organized a little meeting Tuesday evening providing a forum for all the municipalities to meet with county officials and create the opportunity for the towns and cities to work together on common issues.

Though the atmosphere remained lighthearted, mayors had the opportunity to really discuss things their towns and councils are struggling with.

One key concern, particularly for older communities, is what to do with dilapidated buildings.
