Marion County man being held in connection with death of infant

FAIRMONT — A Marion County man was arrested Friday night and will be charged with the death of an infant child.

According to media reports, Marcus Curtis Lewis, 54, was arrested in the community of Carolina in Marion County. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department originated the warrant, while the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the Bridgeport and Fairmont detachments of the West Virginia State Police served the warrant, according to media reports.

Lewis was taken to Harrison County for processing. Lewis is being held at North Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment, media reports said.

Lewis was arraigned Saturday, and has been denied bond according to Marion County Magistrate Melissa Linger. The charge carries between 10 to 40 years in prison, with no option for parole until a minimum of 10 years have been served. The pre-trial hearing will take place in Taylor County and will be scheduled within 10 days.

The infant’s cause of death and relation to Lewis are not being released at this time.

The infant child was pronounced dead at the United Hospital Center Oct. 13.
