Arrest warrants obtained for man charged with hit-and-run accident

FAIRMONT — Arrest warrants have been obtained by the Fairmont Police Department for the Fairmont man charged with the hit-and-run accident Halloween night that sent a woman to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

According to files at the Marion County Magistrate Court, Robert James Hawkins, 48, of Spruce Street, Fairmont, has been charged with failure to notify police and leaving the scene with injury, both misdemeanors.

The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday on the 500 block of East Park Avenue.

According to media reports, Hawkins reportedly told police he left the scene, not thinking he’d struck a person.

The 21-year-old female victim was taken by HealthNet ground units to Ruby with undisclosed injuries. Although she has been reported in stable condition, her name has not been released.

Detective Adrian Hayhurst of the Fairmont Police Department said at the time officers were searching for a truck or SUV because of remains of a broken bug shield left at the scene of the accident.
