Despite the threat of rain Tuesday, the Boys & Girls Club Block Party went off without a hitch.
The event, sponsored by BC Bank, took place from 4-6 p.m. in the BC Bank parking lot, and included a cookout, snacks and activities such as sand art, a photography booth, balloon animals, facepainting and the Marion County Public Library bookmobile.
“This is the first time this event was put on, and it’s gone really well,” Stacy Spadafore, site coordinator for the East Park Boys & Girls Club, said.
Spadafore said planning for the event took three months.
Travis Blosser, Fairmont City Council member and Boys & Girls Club board member, was the main organizer for the event.
“I’m excited to see all the kids here, all the people here enjoying themselves and getting some hamburgers and hot dogs,” Blosser said.
Tammy Lemley brought her three children, Hope, 6, Malachi, 9, and Tyler, 11, to the event. Her children have been going to Boys & Girls Club for three years, and Lemley said the event was a great way for her to enjoy fun activities with her children.
“The event is great because it’s all about families,” Lemley said. “Boys & Girls Club is all about families, and we’re all about family.”
