FAIRMONT — There’s an energy renaissance going on, and Fairmont is in the thick of it.

Transflo Terminal Services, the largest rail-to-truck transloading network in North America, and U.S. Silica celebrated the grand opening Friday of a new frac sand storage facility at the Transflo terminal at 900 Washington St.

The new facility will add about 10,000 tons of frac sand storage capacity on site and will support additional jobs in the area. Transflo is a subsidiary of CSX Corp., with a network of 58 active terminals.

Frac sand is brought to the Fairmont site from Illinois and Wisconsin by rail and then loaded onto trucks for other destinations. As many as 5,000 tons can be switched from rail to truck in about 20 minutes.
