A Fairmont man was arrested Friday by Marion County sheriff’s deputies and charged with DUI controlled substances.
According to the criminal complaint filed at Marion County Magistrate Court, Claude Jones, 28, of 11 Pine St., Fairmont, was observed traveling faster than the posted speed limit on Morgantown Avenue on April 20. Deputy Matthew S. Riffee then observed him continuing at a high rate of speed on East Grafton Pike.
Conducting a traffic stop at Dairy Creme Corner, Riffee “could smell a strong odor of marijuana” coming from Jones’ vehicle. According to the complaint, Jones said he had smoked marijuana earlier.
Riffee patted him down and placed him in handcuffs, advising him he was being detained, and then placed him in the police cruiser.
