FSHS community service gaining steam

Students receive ‘valuable lessons of giving back’

FAIRMONT — Completing a senior project is a requirement for high school seniors throughout Marion County, and Fairmont Senior High School has added its own community-service component to that requirement.

And what do the senior students at FSHS have to show for it?

Seventy-five thousand dollars and countless volunteer hours that have benefited the community.

Lisa Medina, senior project coordinator at FSHS, said the school started implementing the community-service component to the senior project program a few years ago, and that it continues to gain more steam with each passing year.
