Answers sought about impact of Patriot Coal’s bankruptcy: PHOTOS

MONONGAH — Community members want answers about the impact of Patriot Coal Corp.’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy on their lives.

On Wednesday night, coal miners and their families and other citizens came together in Monongah for a “town hall” meeting to discuss concerns about their pensions and insurance from Patriot Coal Corp. and Peabody Energy. About 30 people showed up at the Monongah Town Hall to listen and voice their opinions during the event, which was not sponsored by or affiliated with the United Mine Workers of America.

Jessica Sell, a representatives from Sen. Joe Manchin’s office, and Vicky Jones, outreach specialist for Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, were present to get comments from the attendees and take their questions back to the political leaders.
