Local priests reflect on legacy left by Pope Benedict XVI

FAIRMONT — With today the last day of the papacy of Pope Benedict XVI, local priests are reflecting on his legacy.

“I think this was a very difficult time period to be pope,” said Father Douglas Sutton, pastor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Farmington.

“But he has been a stabilizing force for the church.

“Anybody who goes into any type of powerful, responsible job, whether it’s a president or other leader, ages so quickly."
