FAIRMONT — Glass artist Ron Hinkle created the awards given out Sunday afternoon to a variety of creators during the “Arts in the City” event held by the City of Fairmont Arts & Humanities Commission, a red glass cardinal.

But when it came time to present Hinkle with his award, commission president Mandy Steele explained that the group wanted to give the Buckhannon-based artisan something different, a figurine of a youth called “The Inspired Child.”

“That’s touching to me,” Hinkle said. “I feel like I was an inspired child.”

Hinkle received one of nine awards presented at the event Sunday afternoon at Faith United Methodist Church for artists with talents including singing, playing an instrument, acting, writing and the culinary arts.
