With the recent decision to relocate student services, administration and academic programs to Veterans’ Square in downtown Fairmont, Pierpont Community & Technical College must now develop a complete campus and facilities master plan.
At a Board of Governors meeting Tuesday, Dale Bradley, vice president for administration and finance, said the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education is authorizing the move to both Veterans’ Square and the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), but is also requiring the institution to complete the master plan, which all West Virginia higher education institutions must do.
Prior to the decision to relocate, Pierpont was still in compliance because it was operating under Fairmont State University’s master plan. The board approved the allocation of $100,000 from the E&G capital reserves in order to complete the plan, which must be completed by January 2015, and hire a consultant.
In addition, the board approved the spending of $175,000 in E&G capital funds for the remodeling, administrative fees, furniture, fixtures and equipment associated with Phase One of the move to Veterans’ Square.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the establishment of a new academic division — the School of Workforce Development.
