WHITE HALL —
A White Hall council member has turned in her resignation less than two weeks after being re-elected to the seat.
Councilwoman Beverly Owens submitted her letter of resignation to Mayor Jesse Corley, who announced it during Monday’s council meeting.
Owens has served on White Hall’s council for 16 1/2 years. The resignation takes effect June 30, which is the last day of her current term.
“I have enjoyed serving the residents and businesses of White Hall,” Owens wrote.
The resignation comes after Owens was re-elected to council June 11. All five council members — George Abel, Gary Wilson, Arley Hayhurst, Chad Corley and Owens — ran unopposed in the election.
Owens said her resignation was due to health concerns and other personal issues.
“I just can’t take it anymore,” Owens said Monday, wiping tears from her eyes.
Corley and other council members thanked Owens for the time and efforts she had put in to helping improve the town.
“She’s done an excellent job and will be truly missed,” Corley said.
