Students attending Fairmont State University will see a hike in the cost of their tuition for the 2013-14 academic year.
At a special meeting Tuesday, the Higher Education Policy Commission approved tuition increases for five West Virginia schools.
According to a report by The Associated Press, Bluefield State College, West Virginia University, West Virginia State University, Shepherd University and Fairmont State University will see their tuition costs rise by at least 6 percent.
Several other schools throughout the state are also raising their tuition rates, but by 5 percent or less, which does not require approval from the HEPC.
Ann Booth, director of communications at FSU, said the institution is still affordable in comparison to others throughout the state.
