CLARKSBURG — U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin is working hard to keep schools safe in West Virginia.

Manchin, D-W.Va., kicked off his “Standing Up for the Next Generation” tour Tuesday. He’s spending the week visiting schools statewide to discuss ways to make the facilities safer.

On Wednesday, Manchin visited educators, law enforcement, students and state officials at Robert C. Byrd High School to hear their thoughts on how to make the state’s schools safer.

“It’s bigger than just one issue,” Manchin said.

Manchin was part of a panel of superintendents, principals and state board of education members.

The panel and audience discussed everything from putting film on first-floor windows to counseling and identifying students with mental illnesses.
