Evaluation of Price completed by BOE

Saunders: Board members will re-evaluate school superintendent in June

FAIRMONT — The Marion County Board of Education completed its annual evaluation of Superintendent of Schools Gary Price, and a re-evaluation will take place at the end of the school year.

The board came together during a special session at the Central Office of Marion County Schools on Monday night.

The Rev. James Saunders, president of the board of education, said an evaluation has to be conducted every year before March 1. Each board member received an assessment form and had a couple weeks to review it, and Price also got the paperwork in order to do a self-evaluation.

Shortly after Monday’s meeting was called to order, the five members went into executive session to discuss the evaluation, and then met with the superintendent.

In his statement on behalf of all members of the board, Saunders said Price’s performance was reviewed based on five categories: professional characteristics, relationship with the board, administration, current goals and community relations. The board evaluated the superintendent on a variety of points in every category, providing a rating of “excellent,” “satisfactory,” “needs improvement” or “unsatisfactory.”

“The board went over our individual scores with each other and talked to Mr. Price about issues and concerns,” Saunders said. “The board expressed their concerns and needs for the improvement of our Marion County school system. The board will re-evaluate the superintendent in June.”
