The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the victim of the fatal motorcycle accident on Interstate 79 Saturday night.
According to Deputy Shawn Davis, 51-year-old Roger Ford of Lost Creek, Harrison County, died at 9:51 p.m. Saturday in the accident that happened near mile marker 137 of the southbound lane.
That lane was shut down for more than an hour.
Davis said Ford was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken by HealthNet to United Hospital Center in Harrison County.
“The witness said she was in the slow lane and he went to pass her. He appeared to be doing the speed limit,” Davis said. “He hit one of the rumble strips and lost control. Based on her statements, he tried to keep control but was unable to because of the gravel.
“He got into the cables. She couldn’t tell anything after that because of the dust.
“Road conditions were dry. At this point, I don’t think speed was a factor, but this is still in the early stages of investigation.”
Ford had been wearing a helmet, Davis said.
