Guilty pleas by former cheerleading coach on charges of sexual misconduct with minor

FAIRMONT — Former North Marion High School freshman cheerleading coach Amanda Jo Barker, 31, of Mannington, pleaded guilty to three charges involving sexual misconduct with a minor at a hearing in Marion County Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

The charges include two counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian and one count of soliciting a minor via computer, all felony charges. Each count involves a separate, juvenile victim, according to information presented by Marion County Prosecutor Pat Wilson.

As part of the hearing procedure, Judge David R. Janes walked Barker through the implications of entering these pleas and waiving her right to indictment.

    Members of the United Mine Workers of America (UMW) will be gathering today in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to protest the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed Clean Power Plan.

    The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Marion County is closer to completion thanks to an allocation from the county commission.
    During Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners passed a motion to allocate $5,000 to the memorial. The money came from the county’s coal severance tax fund.

    Tyrell Anthony Smith, 24, of Fairmont, was arrested Tuesday by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and has been charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin.
