European countries consistently top lists of best vacation destinations, but while a week is an easy decision to make, two years is a little more of a commitment.
And it isn’t stopping Magdalena Sherry. Sherry, a Farmington resident, will be leaving Monday to prepare for a trip to Ukraine with the Peace Corps, a chance to work with disaffected youth and help people.
“(I wanted to) go out into the world and promote peace and promote friendship,” Sherry said.
The Peace Corps is a program dating back to John F. Kennedy’s presidency, created with the purpose of sending young Americans around the world to share their skills and culture with people living in less-privileged nations. In the process, the young men and women also learn about other cultures, facilitating greater peace and understanding.
